Your chimney should be attended to this Spring. Make a Spring checklist for your chimney.

Now that spring is right around the corner, your chimney again needs to adapt to the changes in temperature and of the environment in general. Most people have a ritual they do to prepare the chimney right before winter season starts and spring is no different. You have to again ready your chimney for leaves falling everywhere and deal with the aftermath left by winter. We from Bulldog Chimney Sweeps would like to tell you how we can help you prepare your chimney for spring.

Vents and Flues

First of all, vents and flues are our top priority. We inspect the inside of the flue using a special video camera and see if there are any damages incurred during winter. There might be cracks or holes inside and this could lead to the need for replacement of the flue. If the flue liner is damaged, then there is a need for chimney relining or the replacement of the flue liner. The venting systems need to be cleaned also after the inspection to make sure that moisture is not trapped inside and causes mold to accumulate.

Chimney Caps

During winter there is a tendency for birds, raccoons, squirrels, snakes and chimney swifts to make a home out of your chimney. They may still be inside your chimney at the onset of spring, making them the number one cause for deterioration or problems with the vital parts inside the chimney. To solve this dilemma, have a chimney cap installed by our CSIA-licensed sweeps. The chimney cap will act as the defense system of the chimney not only against animals but against water as well. Yes, for many reasons water is a great enemy to the chimney.

A Long-Term Investment

It may appear to be costly but think of it as a long-term investment. Sometimes when we think of spending less for now, we may end up spending twice as much on repairs or replacements in the long run. Once your chimney is free of obstructions, it can function properly and there will be no chance for bigger problems to arise. Besides, your regular spring cleaning should always include the chimney.
