The Great State of Colorado

Colorado is truly a magnificent place to live and work. Bulldog Chimney Sweeps is proud to be part of the business and residential community of the Centennial State.

Colorado is the 8th largest state in the U.S. and has over 104,000 square miles of the most beautiful countryside you will see anywhere. There are mountains, and plains, deserts and water. The front range of the Rocky Mountains is in Colorado and so is the Continental Divide. The highest elevation of the state is Mount Elbert in Lake County which is 14,440 feet above sea level with the lowest point along the Arikaree River which is only 3,317 above sea level. The weather in Colorado covers every condition including snow, hail, rain, heat and humidity, and changes often. Colorado was granted its statehood in 1875 as the 38th state of the United States.

There are major cities in Colorado such as its capital Denver, as well as quaint small towns that still retain their historical charm like those found in the Pike’s Peak area. Remember, Colorado played a key role in the Gold Rush when gold was first discovered in the Cripple Creek area in 1859.

Vail, Breckenridge, Aspen, Snowmass, and Telluride offer some of the best skiing anywhere and many celebrities and entrepreneurs have homes in the Northwest area of Colorado.

The Colorado website, Things To Do In Colorado offers visitors and residents year round activities ranging from culture to sports to water activities to historical travel. Colorado truly has something appealing for all age groups.

Northeast Colorado is home to the cities of Akron, Atwood, Brush, Burlington, and Cheyenne Wells and is the Great Plains inspiration for the historical song “Home on the Range” sung by famous Colorado resident John Denver. Denver also made popular the song “Rocky Mountain High”.

Much of the area of southeastern Colorado is reminiscent of the traders, trappers and pioneers who settled there in the mid-1800s. Today towns like Campo, Cheraw, Colorado City and Chivington are located here. There is an abundance of wildlife and short grass prairie and John Martin Reservoir State Park is located in southeastern Colorado.

The southwest part of the state boasts the region being “as wild as it gets”. Mesa Verde and Black Canyon National Parks are located here. The San Juan Mountains provide the backdrop for cities such as Almont, Bayfield, Chimney Rock, and Cortez.

The south central part of Colorado is a contradiction of mountains and flat lands, the Rio Grande River and the Great Sand Dunes, gold mining towns and North America’s highest suspension bridge, the Royal Gorge. Alamosa, Antoito, Baily and Blanca are cities located in the south central part of Colorado.

There are so many places to see and things to do in Colorado, that even residents often miss spectacular events and destinations. Visiting the website Colorado Parks & Wildlife helps you know where to take an afternoon trip, day trip, weekend get-away, or enjoy a longer vacation without leaving the state.
